Spider-Man No Way Home: Dr Strange, 3 Spideys, Foxx, and More

Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man 3

Sony Pictures / Marvel Studios

After uncertainty between Sony and Marvel, Tom Holland is coming back to play Spidey in an as-yet-untitled third instalment of Spider-Man in the MCU. Here’s everything we know about Spider-Man 3 so far…

When will Spider-Man 3 be released?

As it stands, this instalment in the MCU is set to be released on December 17th 2021. However, with the current cinematic world ripent with delays due to coronavirus, it’s possible that it will be delayed.

Doctor Strange will accompany Spider-Man

Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in the film to continue his role as Doctor Strange. It’s not clear at this point how meaty his role in the film will be. It might just be a couple of minutes (like the Sherlock actor’s part in Thor: Ragnorok), but it’s certainly good to know he’ll be making an appearance! And, given that Doctor Strange 2 is titled, ‘Multi-Verse of Madness,’ it almost feels like proof of a Spider-Verse, and certainly explains the next couple of points! It’s also worth noting that Doctor Strange in the Multi-Verse of Madness is being directed by none other than Sam Raimi; director of the Tobey Maguire trilogy.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield rumoured to be in casting talks

Fans have been hoping for a Spider-verse in the MCU for some time now – a multi-verse where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man each exists in their own reality. And – through some form of sorcery or in-the-closet Stark tech – the realities happen to bleed into each other so that we can see all three web-slingers on screen at the same time.

With reports that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are in talks to join the cast of the film, it sounds like we could be getting exactly that! Onto the villain…

Jamie Foxx returning as Electro

Further proof of a Spider-verse comes with the news that Jamie Foxx is finalising talks for his return as Electro for Spider-Man 3!

A villain you could really empathize with, Jamie Foxx’s Electro was one of the most memorable parts from Andrew Garfield’s turn as the web-slinger. We are thrilled that he’s returning for the MCU series.

Alfred Molina returning as Doc Oc

Not only will a major villain from Andrew Garfield’s spell as the web-slinger return, but a fan-favourite baddy from Tobey Maguire’s reign will be coming back for Holland’s third outing, too, in the form of Alfred Molina’s terrifying Doc Oc. With Electro and Doc Oc confirmed for the film, there’s a lot of talk about the Sinister Six making their debut in the MCU.

Daredevil’s Charlie Cox seen on the set of Spider-Man 3

It’s been reported that Charlie Cox was spotted on set of Spider-Man 3. This is huge news, if it means that he’s reviving his role as Daredevil from the series Marvel created with Netflix. If Daredevil is going to appear in the MCU, this paves the way for other small screen Defenders such as Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Punisher to make appearances on the big screen, too!

A Christmas setting

Following recent set photos, it’s been revealed that Holland’s third solo outing as Spider-Man will be set at Christmas time. This marries up nicely with the December 17th release date. It will be the MCU’s first Christmas-themed movie, and we can’t wait!

What will Spider-Man 3 be called?

Although there’s no official title yet, one theory doing the rounds is that the studio will be sticking with the ‘home’ theme. The first instalment was Homecoming. The second was Far From Home. This theory says that, because he was incriminated at the very end of the last film, he might be in prison in the third instalment, and so ‘Spider-Man: Homesick’ would be a good call.
